Dr. Mani Blaskil was a former psychologist at the Renraku Arcology. After witnessing the AI Deus’ systematic destruction of the Arcology’s population, and having been the subject of two AI-induced pain tests where he suffered 210 days in constant agony by electric shock and robotic probing, Dr. Blaskil was one of the survivors of Deus’ holocaust.
Renouncing his Doctorate voluntarily in 2062, and using a sizeable amount of Nuyen given him by the Draco Foundation for an essay written about the ordeal that the Foundation found worthy of rewarding, Blaskil published a longer memoir. This memoir went on to be one of the definitive historical works on the Renraku incident, selling over 131 million downloads. At 43¥ a download, he made a sizeable nest egg for himself.
Mani Blaskil has two personal security detachments that he uses randomly. Each detachment consists of two shooters, a rigger and a driver. Each team has a complement of 5 MCT modified rotor drones. The four shooters are heavily chipped ex-UCAS Urban Strike Force members. The riggers have above average skills, and the drivers are of a professional level. Mani’s security entails 4 well-secured bungalows, each with a butler and maid, owned throughout Seattle, used randomly. Two identically modified Mitsubishi Nightsky limos, one with a look-a-like Mani flesh puppet as decoy. Whenever his first team is mobile, the second team is out escorting the decoy; the team members regularly switch teams to further confuse would-be assassins. Most of his transmissions and Trideo shows are aired from one of these limos.
Mani has a huge insight into the masses; in fact his doctorate was based on Mass Psychology, hired by Renraku to research ways to better sway public opinion. Hugely charismatic and a bit of an egomaniac, Blaskil truly loves humanity. He believes with all his heart that we can return to a 1950’s socio-economical state where the woman stays home, the man goes to work; every family has a chicken in the pot, 2.5 children and a dog. He’s a collector of 20th century literature and has an extensive collection of vintage paperback romance novels.
Mani is so charismatic in fact; that on the air and in personal interviews he’s gotten a few Metahumans to admit that there is something wrong with their existence in society. He claims that Metahumans are evil, but he believes more strongly that they are just a disease to find a cure for. Mani has always had a strong cult following, but of late, it’s been breaking more mainstream, and as his popularity grows, so does his paranoid state about his personal security.
To sum him up quickly: he is an emotionally damaged but extremely intelligent individual. He’s not a Racist, really, just misguided and has let fear drive him. He wakes up in a cold sweat panic a half dozen times every night remembering the events from Renraku. It has made him driven and bitter, full of misdirected hate.
